Week 9 - Biology

Cell Transport

As we move through this week, we’ll discuss essential concepts differentiating the types of cellular transport while finishing our last microscope slides.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • define all terms from the previous 8 weeks,

  • describe the composition of a phospholipid bilayer,

  • differentiate between passive & active transport,

  • compare simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, and osmoregulation,

  • compare what occurs to cells in isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic solutions, and

  • review the essential differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells while differentiating the types of cells in prokaryotes & eukaryotes.

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Microscopy - Oil Immersion

  1. We’ll finish your slides that need oil immersion in the lab.

  1. After class, study for your reassess if you’re choosing to take it next block.

  2. IF you want a review of organelles from last week, watch the video below.

Day 2: Cell History & Transport

  1. We’ll use today to discuss cell history, types of microscopes used in labs, then describe the different types of passive and active transport, with a particular focus on: simple diffusion, facilitated diffusion, osmosis, bulk transport, and molecular transport.

  2. AFTER CLASS, read pages 226-228 & create a section in your notes reviewing the content listed on pages 18-19 in your textbook & watch the video below as a review.

IMPORTANT DATES

Test next week on Day 2 covering chemistry, water, and biological macromolecules!

Did you…?

  • … take good notes this week? Look over those and make sure you feel it’s adequately summarizing the content and includes relevant terminology that we’ve discussed.

  • … finish your microscope lab It will be due next week (If you need extra time, you can use extra time after your test on Tuesday/Wednesday)?

  • … read (226-228 & 18-19 in your textbook) the mentioned pages in your textbook and takes notes on the final two pages?

  • … finish your “Terms to Know: Week 9”?

  • … study for your test next week covering chemistry of life, water, and biological macromolecules?
