Week 6 - Biology

Enzymes & Connecting Essential Topics

This week will be dedicated to connecting biomolecules and enzymes while reviewing essential topics to ensure that we are all ready for the next few weeks.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • define all terms from the previous 5 weeks,

  • identify the role that enzymes have in our everyday lives,

  • differentiate between endergonic and exergonic reactions,

  • describe how active sites, substrates, and enzymes are all interconnected,

  • and feel comfortable with moving along to our next major topic.

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Macromolecules Review

  1. During class, Please first turn in your properties of water lab and your journal in your block’s box. After that, watch the videos I created about biological macromolecules and take notes on these videos (if you didn’t last week). Use any extra time to then complete the gizmos activity.

  2. These videos can be found in the “content videos” section of the website from the first page or here. Watch the 4 videos (carbs, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins).

  3. After class, study for your test on Day 3!

Day 2: Review

We’ll review chemical reactions and enzymes, introduce our new content next week (learning about prokaryotes & Eukaryotes) then prepare for your test!

Day 3: Test

  1. Test time! We’ll dedicate the entire class time towards the test; you can use any time extra to catch up on other assignments.

IMPORTANT DATES

Did you…?

  • … complete your “Enzymes - Case Study” on Gizmos?

  • … begin your “prokaryotes and eukaryotes” activity for Monday?

  • … finish all reading assignments over the last few weeks? If you haven’t look back over these last three weeks, as we’re beginning to make our way through the textbook and you should not get behind.
