Week 29 - Biology
Evolution
You’ve now finished 75% of biology! We’ll begin the week by introducing evolution, begin a broader discussion on evolutionary theory by seeing how evolution connects with the abiotic and biotic factors within the environment, then connect this concept with climate change.
BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:
define evolution,
describe and differentiate the five mechanisms of evolution,
and describe how evolution among populations relates to animal behavior.
Your Week Ahead
Day 1: Mechanisms of Evolution
Welcome back! We’ll start with a discussion on your paper, identify the mechanisms of evolution and what it means to evolve, then prep for the week.
After class, work on your paper, which is due April 4th-5th. A hard copy must be printed and placed in your block’s box and it must be shared to me through google docs.
Also after class, begin working on the gizmos “natural selection” using the document you picked up in class. This is due next Monday.
Also after class, work on your terms to know for week 29. Pages 450-501 can assist with most terms.
Day 2: A Prisoner’s Dilemma & Racing Extinction
We’ll continue the week with a discussion on evolution and see how these systems connect to both abiotic and biotic factors. We’ll see how evolution favors behavioral changes among populations through a friendly, competitive game among each other in class.
We’ll then move into a movie describing extinction events and connecting this with climate change.
