Week 22 - Biology

Terrestrial and Aquatic Biomes & Ecological Hierarchy

We’ll learn how to differentiate terrestrial and aquatic biomes, and discuss how energy is transferred within a given ecosystem.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • use all appropriate terminology found on your week 21 “Terms to Know”,

  • identify the two abiotic factors that delineate terrestrial biomes and the three abiotic factors that delineate aquatic biomes,

  • differentiate the ten terrestrial biomes,

  • differentiate the nine aquatic biomes,

  • describe how energy is transferred via producers and consumers, and

  • review energy levels and use appropriate terminology when describing how organisms obtain energy.

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Terrestrial Biomes

  1. You’ll start with taking your quiz on punnett squares and central dogma.

  2. Since I’m away from school today, I’ve attached the powerpoint for terrestrial and aquatic biomes in the downloaded files section to the right. Open it up and take notes from where we stopped last week. My hope is by Thursday that you’ll have notes on all terrestrial and aquatic biomes in that powerpoint.

  3. This week, find a research paper that interests you, summarize it in your journal, then describe why you chose that particular paper. It must be peer-reviewed. We will talk more about a peer-reviewed article when I return; This will be due next Monday.

    1. Your journal entry should have the paper in APA citation first.

    2. You should then summarize the article in your own words.

    3. Finally, state why you chose this article. What about it interests you?

Day 2: Ecology & Terrestrial Biomes & Aquatic Biomes & Energy

  1. Please use class time to finish your notes on terrestrial and aquatic biomes from the PDFs I added in the “Downloaded Files” section. Some mentioned it wasn’t working earlier but should be working now.

  2. Note that you will have a Test next Wednesday/Thursday on genetics.
