Week 16 - Biology

The Cell Cycle

This is your final week of new content for the first semester! We’ll spend this week discussing the fundamentals of the cell cycle and begin preparing for your final weeks of studying for your final exam.

BY THE END OF THIS WEEK, you should be able to:

  • describe what occurs in G1, S, & G2 and how to differentiate each,

  • discuss how cancer cells relate to the cell cycle,

  • list the stages of a cell’s cycle in chronological order, including the three stages of interphase, the two stages of M phase, and the steps within mitosis (prophase, metaphase, anaphase, & telophase, and

  • describe the phases of mitosis.

Your Week Ahead

Day 1: Finish Lab & Interphase/M Phase

  1. We’ll start class finishing last week’s lab then begin an activity for the day.

  2. Turn in your cell division from last week’s day 2. If you don’t have it today, complete it for your day 2 this week.

  3. After class, review pages 274-285 in your textbook and read pages 286-297.

  4. Also after class, start preparing your binder to study for your exam! I’m going to have a binder check at the end of this week. I don’t care what way you organize it, but it needs to be organized such that you can easily find your material in a way that works for you.

Day 2: Somatic Cell Lab

  1. You’ll spend the day completing a lab on Mitosis.

Day 3: Drawing Test and beginning Exam Review

  1. We’ll use this day to take your drawing test, finish up everything from the week, then begin preparing for your exams!
